Treasure Hunters

For treasure hunters day we donned our newspaper pirate hats and went on a treasure hunt around Deerfield!

We used a GPS to navigate our way to the "hidden treasure."

Almost there!

We found it!

What is it?
We added "DCC" to the list of others that found this geocache in the Glacial Drumlin Park!

When we got back to the elementary school we cooled off in the computer lab and created our own electronic treasure maps!!!

Our tie-dye supplies finally arrived so we got to make our shirts... they're rainbow this year! :) Look for your child to bring theirs home on Friday, I can't wait to see them!!!

All Ball

Today the Zoomobile came to Deerfield!

The fantastic zoo educators taught us about millipedes, turtles, blue tongued skinks, parrots, and ferrets!

Millipedes! Ewww!
Ferrets!

Some of us were even brave enough to pet the turtle and the blue tongued skink!

We stopped at Savannah Park on the way home and got to play for a little bit!

For All Ball day we made hand-print wreathes to represent our favorite sports teams and played baseball in the gym!

Fired Up Pottery & The Monona Dream Park

Last week for our field trip we went to Fired Up Pottery and made suncatchers! We didn't get to bring them home last week but we're expecting a call this week so we can pick them up! We even got a demonstration of how to make different things on a pottery wheel like coffee cups, vases, and even a volcano!

Take a look at what we did!

Looks awesome, Paul!

Working hard!

After Fired Up Pottery we got to play at the Monona Dream Park!

Being goofy at the park!

Make a silly face!

Backwards & Go Green!

Yesterday was backwards day and we did everything a little bit backwards! We played backwards basketball! The goal was to throw the basketball up through the hoop and knock the red ball out of the hoop instead of throwing it through the hoop like normal basketball!

We even got to play lawn games in the gym to avoid the hot weather outside!

We learned about palindromes (words spelled the same way forwards and back) like eye, dad, mom, kayak, and noon and played opposites BINGO!

Go Green!

Today we learned all about recycling and going green! We planted grass inside recycled eggshells and played a gym game called "Clean Out the Backyard!"

We made an extra trip to the splash park to stay cool in the heat and got to play at Savannah Park too!

(Brooke forgot her camera, whoops! More pictures tomorrow!)

Remember: Tomorrow is field trip day!

We're going to Fired Up Pottery on Monona Drive where we'll make sun-catchers using an art technique called glass fusing! The activity is safe for all ages!

We'll be leaving the school at 12:30pm following lunch at the school and will return to school around 4:45pm or 5:00pm!

"Out of the Box"

Today was dedicated to thinking "out of the box" and letting our creativity take over!

We ate lunch at the Savannah park and then walked to the library to see Professor Owlbert Eyeshine, a scientist who studies nocturnal animals!

Professor Owlbert Eyeshine

We learned a lot about animals that are more active during the night such as bats and many owls found in Wisconsin!

We had delicious root beer floats for our afternoon snack and designed our own Zentangle hands!

We also played a variation of kickball called Aerobic Kickball in the gym - to avoid the heat!!!

Although everyone was tired after their first day of summer school we had a lot of fun and even learned a little bit! :)

Tomorrow is "Backwards Day" so get ready to do things a little backwards and silly!

Celebrate!

Today we celebrated all those summer birthdays and Father's Day by playing classic birthday party games like...

The Clothes Change Relay!

A sack race!

Pin the nose on the sun!

So close!

And Musical Chairs!

We enjoyed the beautiful weather and had some fun at Savannah Park and the Splash Park!

Mohawks!

To finish our day we had cupcakes with TONS of toppings while watching The Muppets movie!

This first week was a BLAST, can't wait to see everyone on Monday!
